Art of The Hobbit American Edition

Today we heard the good news that Houghton Mifflin Harcourt (HMH) will be publishing our Art of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien on 18 September this year, just in time for Bilbo and Frodo’s birthday on September the 22nd (if you’re a Tolkien fan, you’ll know what that means; if not, well . . .). The American edition of The Art of The Hobbit will omit the slipcase of the British edition (shown here), but add a dust-jacket using the same design. The list price will be $40.00.

Also to be published on 18 September, with a list price of $15.95, is an American edition of the ‘pocket’ Hobbit first issued by HarperCollins in 2011. The ‘Pocket Hobbit’ and The Art of The Hobbit together will form part of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt’s celebration of the 75th anniversary of The Hobbit, which was first published in the United States (by Houghton Mifflin) in 1938. HMH will be issuing a printed brochure for their Hobbit anniversary in addition to news posted on their website.
