The Tolkien Collector nos. 29 & 30
Subscribers to our occasional magazine The Tolkien Collector will be pleased to know that we are at last about to post nos. 29 and 30. Renewal notices are enclosed for those whose subscriptions have expired. Once again, we produced two numbers at once, the better to catch up with Tolkien publications that appeared during our long absence from the Collector while we were (among other things) fulfilling several Tolkien-related book contracts. From this point, we will publish only one issue at a time, and hope to do so more often than we have in recent years.
The highlight of Tolkien Collector 30, occupying half its length, is Steven M. Frisby’s ‘Identifying First and Second Edition Printings of the Houghton Mifflin Hobbit’. This study of a very difficult aspect of Tolkien bibliography predates (in its original form) similar essays that have appeared on the Internet, and would have been published early in 2003 if we had been able to continue the Collector at that time.
