Well, We’re Back
Our absence from this blog since May 6th is not for lack of something to write about – we have no end of ideas! – but because we were making our first visit to England since 2008. We left for Boston on May 7th, flew to London on the 8th, and returned home on the 25th. More than a week later, we’re still catching up with correspondence, laundry, gardening, and other business. We’ll be writing about our trip in a series of posts: about our research in Oxford, Bristol, and London; about exhibitions we were able to see; about what we found in a sadly shrinking number of bookshops; and much else.
First, though, Christina will deal with old business – a visit to New York and New Haven earlier this year – and we want to pass along the good news that our Art of The Hobbit by J.R.R. Tolkien is a finalist for the Mythopoeic Society’s annual Scholarship Award in Inklings Studies, to be awarded at the Society’s convention in Berkeley, California this August. A complete list of finalists for the Society’s four awards may be read here. It’s stiff competition, and we’re honoured to be in good company.
We can also report that we have been asked to be on a Tolkien panel at the Boston Book Festival on Saturday, 27 October, and to give a public talk at Marquette University in early November. We’ll have more details about these events later.
